Hi, new
nordic_noir members! Nice to see you all! I'm the mod and I hope you all will have a great time here and that you will feel welcome to post your own stuff, fanworks, news, squeeposts, questions and discussions or whatever Nordic Noir-related stuff you like. :)
It is also nice to see a bunch of Nordic Noir fans gathered in one place, finally! I have seen many single posts referring to heroes and stories from the Nordic Noir-genre here on LJ, but as long as we just post to our own journals and to the different multi-fandom communities, it is hard to get up the momentum in this particular niche. Hopefully this community will be a step in the right direction and a source of much fannish joy and sharing. <3 *hugs you all, politely but exited*
If you like, you can present yourself in the comment fields here. Tell us what fandoms you're a part of, how you stumbled over your Nordic Noir favourite, pairings you like, and how about including a picture of your favourite character?

Date: 2012-03-10 03:16 pm (UTC)I'm a grown, female, book-loving Norwegian that has enjoyed crime novels, suspense and mysteries my whole life. I love classic authors like Poe and Conan Doyle, Dickson Carr and Rex Stout, but also contemporary crime like Val McDermid and Patricia Cornwall. Fanwise some of my best reads are slash with suspense included. (Like "Shadow of the Templar" for those who know it.)
My favourite Nordic Noir authors are Henning Mankell, Gunnar Staalesen, Jo Nesbø, Stieg Larsson and Anne Holt. (I also love Andre Bjerke, but he might be too old to really belong to the Nordic Noir genre.) I like many more, but the above is the ones that I'll happily reread.
I only slash stories from one of the above, namely Staalesen's Varg Veum. It might be because he was created from a fannish perspective himself, Staalesen has tributed him especially to Raymond Chandler. That gives, among other things, the dialogue in the books and films an extra dimension, a tongue in cheek running referral to all detective stories everywhere. And that also makes Varg Veum a very compelling and pliable character to run off with. His chemistry with his counterpart in the police, Detective Inspector Jakob E. Hamre, also has a special allure to me. ;)
I won't post a picture here and now, as I plan to post a picsmpam with them later. *bounces a little in fannish glee*

Date: 2012-03-10 06:34 pm (UTC)I kinda grew up with Sjöwall/Wahlöö, Rex Stout, Agatha Christie, Robert B. Parker's Spenser, Nero Wolfe and lots and lots of others.
How I got into nordic crime novels?
Mom stumbled over Wallander and I've developed an interest as well, so I've been keeping my eyes open to discover even more authors I don't know yet.
I've always been saying that there's a slash pairing in Wallander that nobody has picked on, since the colleague was killed (the one where Kurt discovered belatedly that his colleague was gay and sorta had a crush on him - I can't remember the dead guy's name, sorry).

I'll certainly keep my eyes open for it. Perhaps I should make a presentation post on the topic and hope that someone will take the bait. ;)
