Small Fandoms Bang is a big bang community for small fandoms. A big bang is a long fanfic (≈ more than 10.000 words). Writing a long story can be something of a challenge and even more if you are writing for a small fandom, and so the smallfandombang community is there to provide encouragement, help and cheer-leading to make you reach your writing goals. And as the nordic_noir fandoms are generally small and have much too few big bangs (in my opinion :D), the community could be very useful for Nordic Noir fans. So go for it: that longfic your plotbunnies have been nibbling at!

One night the power goes out at a local hospital, The Lowander Institute, a private hospital in Goteborg, Sweden. The back-up generator fails to kick in, and a patient in ICU dies. The nurse who was looking after the patient disappears. There is only one witness, and she claims to have seen Nurse Tekla doing her night rounds. Which could have been an excellent observation, except that nurse Tekla died – committed suicide – 60 years ago."

Against Lestrade's better judgement, the pair find themselves on their way to Wales to investigate the curious case of a local politician accused of murdering his mistress. Will their fledgling relationship weather the strain of working together and the unpredictable tempest that is Sherlock Holmes?

Henning Mankell's seventh book about Kurt Wallander: "On Step Behind" has a plot and a character (and possible pair of star-crossed lovers) of special interest to slashing fans:

Karl Svedberg, Wallander's good friend and colleague is implicated in a crime early on in the book, and much of the following plot focuses on secrets he has kept from Wallander. I bet you can guess where this is going? *drumroll* One Step Behind has canon angsty slash! *hugs the author*

BUT why am I writing this? Because there is no fic! I haven't found a single one, neither on FF.net: Wallander nor on AO3: Wallander, nor anywhere else. Do you know better? Or, could I inspire you to make a go of it? Please post plotbunnies too: the right prompt does help a lot in greasing the cogs. ;)

It's sad to know that Kalde Hjerter (Cold Hearts), with premiere today: March 30., will be the last Veum-movie, at least for a while. Here is a trailer (in Norwegian):

Kalde Hjerter is the last in a series of 12 Varg-Veum-movies and to my knowledge, no more is planned at the moment. ;_; This last one is directed by Trond Espen Seim, the actor who plays Varg Veum.

New members keep dribbling in, and it's great to see more Nordic Noir-fans. A warm welcome to you all! And if you'd like to present yourself, your favorite Nordic Noir-novels, characters, movies or series, news or gossip, hop to it! It doesn't have the be "the most important post evar", it can be a simple picture of your favourite, a question, a drabble - I'm sure you get the gist.

I have asked a few other communities if they want to become our affiliates. Here's the list so far (Yay for them!):
beforeyouwrite - A fanfic community for rare pairings and fandoms.
bookfanfiction - A fanfiction archive for fic based on books.
moviefanfiction - A fanfiction archive for fandoms based on movies.
scandafandom - A multifannish community for fans speaking Scandinavian languages.

Varg Veum is the central character in a series of crime noir novels, written by Gunnar Staalesen, about a private detective who lives in Bergen, on the west coast of Norway. The very successful books have been translated into several languages, including English, German, Swedish, and Danish, and a long running series of movies.

The Varg Veum series has a rugged-but-kind hero, an interesting ensemble of side characters, action, thrilling mysteries, heartache, beautiful scenery and - badum pish! - a certain slash potential.

The eleventh Varg Veum movie The Dead have It Easy, had its Norwegian première January 20. 2012.

Millennium Trilogy or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - fan resources

Here's a little resource-post for Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy. There's actually a lot of fanworks floating around on this fandom, but there's few central points to go look for it. Here's some of what I found:

A short review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo over at bookish, by make_meabird.
A comprehensive review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo over at ScandinavianBooks.com, including background and facts about the author. An interesting read, for sure.

A review of Swedish movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor) (2009) on eddaxs_movies.
A poll on the Swedish movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on amovieaday, with very good overall rating, so far. :)

Info about the move productions and actors are to be found on ONTD:The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Stieg Larsson News and on the LiveJournal community rooneymara - Rooney Mara Daily. Rooney Mara Daily also has screencaps and graphics from the Fincher films.

Hi, new nordic_noir members! Nice to see you all! I'm the mod and I hope you all will have a great time here and that you will feel welcome to post your own stuff, fanworks, news, squeeposts, questions and discussions or whatever Nordic Noir-related stuff you like. :)

It is also nice to see a bunch of Nordic Noir fans gathered in one place, finally! I have seen many single posts referring to heroes and stories from the Nordic Noir-genre here on LJ, but as long as we just post to our own journals and to the different multi-fandom communities, it is hard to get up the momentum in this particular niche. Hopefully this community will be a step in the right direction and a source of much fannish joy and sharing. <3 *hugs you all, politely but exited*

Aslak Nore and Asbjørn Slettemark are two Norwegian journalists and editors that also have their own crime blog. As they have good connections, their blog is filled with newsworthy articles, authors, actors and interesting stuff for the Nordic crime connoisseur. The blog is in Norwegian.

Varg Veum Fanfiction

When I was doing my research I went through all the Veum-dialog I could get hold of. The most inspiring quotations are gathered here (in Norwegian). Especially Veum/Hamre-enthusiasts should pay attention to these. ;)

I have also set up a Varg Veum-biography, a Jakob E. Hamre-biography and a Veum-timeline. (All in Norwegian.) Lots of useful stuff for others contemplating writing Veum fanfic, in other words. :D
